Latvia to Lithuania

Championship golf, 3 hours from Riga. No flight required.

Riga to Capitals Golf Club: straight down the highway, across a border you won't even notice, and onto 140 hectares of championship golf in a nature reserve. It's closer than Liepaja. Leave after breakfast, play 18 holes, have dinner in Vilnius, sleep in a 4-star hotel. Or make it a day trip -- we've done both.

The closest championship golf

Latvia is building its golf scene. Lithuania built it first.

Latvia has a growing golf community and some good courses -- Ozo, Viesturi, and others have put Latvian golf on the map. But for a corporate event that needs to impress, the options within Latvia are still limited. The demand for premium corporate golf experiences is growing faster than the supply of courses that can deliver them.

That's where Lithuania comes in. Capitals Golf Club has been running as a full 18-hole championship course since 2008. The infrastructure is mature and purpose-built for events: a clubhouse with restaurant and meeting facilities, a professional driving range, PGA-qualified coaching, and a course layout that spans 140 hectares of Natura 2000 protected landscape.

The distance from Riga is almost trivial. Three hours by car, straight down the highway. No flights to book, no airports to navigate, no luggage restrictions on your clubs. You leave Riga after a civilised breakfast, and you're warming up on the range before noon.

For Latvian companies that already do corporate events in Lithuania -- dinners in Vilnius, conferences in Kaunas, team retreats at Lithuanian spas -- adding championship golf to that repertoire is a natural step. And for those discovering Lithuania as a corporate event destination for the first time, golf is perhaps the best way to experience it: outdoors, unhurried, and genuinely memorable.

Two ways to do it

Day trip or overnight -- both work beautifully

The day trip

For groups who want to keep it tight

08:00

Depart Riga. Private minibus or self-drive convoy.

11:00

Arrive at Capitals Golf Club. Coffee, warm-up on the range, beginners' clinic.

12:00

Tee off. 18 holes of championship golf in stunning surroundings.

17:00

Post-round drinks on the terrace. Prize ceremony. Lunch or early dinner at the clubhouse.

19:00

Depart for Riga. Home by 22:00.

The overnight

For groups who want the full experience

Day 1

Drive to Lithuania. Afternoon golf at Capitals. Evening: check into hotel in Vilnius or Kaunas, dinner at a top restaurant.

Day 2

Morning at leisure: explore Vilnius Old Town, spa, or second round of golf. Late morning departure, back in Riga by mid-afternoon.

Why we recommend this: The overnight version transforms a golf outing into a proper corporate experience. The dinner is where relationships deepen. The second morning gives people time to decompress. It's the difference between "that was nice" and "that was one of the best company events we've done."

Baltic partnership

Same currency. Same values. Different fairways.

EUR

Shared currency

Both Latvia and Lithuania use the Euro. No exchange rates, no conversion hassle, clean expense reports. Pricing is transparent and comparable.

0

Border friction

Both countries are Schengen. The border is marked by a sign, not a checkpoint. You drive through without stopping. Same as crossing a county line.

EN

English fluency

Lithuania has excellent English proficiency. At the course, hotels, and restaurants, communication is seamless. Many Lithuanians also understand some Latvian and Russian.

Latvian companies already cross into Lithuania constantly for business. Kaunas and Vilnius host Latvian-Lithuanian business events, trade delegations, and joint ventures throughout the year. Adding a corporate golf day to an existing Lithuanian business trip is a natural fit -- or making the golf the centrepiece and building the trip around it.

The cultural overlap makes everything easier. Latvians and Lithuanians understand each other's business styles -- direct, practical, no-nonsense. Your team won't experience culture shock. They'll experience a change of scenery, a new course, and the particular freshness that comes from getting out of your home market for a day.

Frequently asked

Questions from Latvian groups

How long is the drive from Riga to the golf course?
About 3 hours from Riga centre to Capitals Golf Club, taking the A7/E67 highway south through Bauska and crossing into Lithuania. The road is good and mostly dual carriageway. You can leave Riga after a late breakfast and be on the first tee by lunchtime. For groups preferring not to drive, a short flight to Vilnius or Kaunas is also an option.
Can we do a day trip or should we stay overnight?
A day trip is absolutely doable -- leave Riga by 8am, golf from 11am, finish by late afternoon, back in Riga by evening. But we'd recommend staying overnight if your budget allows. It turns the trip from a rushed day into a proper experience: relaxed golf, dinner in Vilnius or Kaunas, a good night's sleep, and a leisurely morning before heading back. The extra night transforms the event.
Do Latvian companies actually use golf for corporate events?
Increasingly, yes. Latvian corporate golf has grown significantly -- driven partly by the business connections with the Nordics and Western Europe where golf events are standard. But Latvia's own course options are limited compared to demand, especially for groups wanting a premium experience. Lithuania's Capitals Golf Club is a natural extension: close enough to be easy, established enough to deliver a top-tier event.
